About Russian California
Russian California is an independent California news publication operating online through RusCali.com. We publish original journalism about California communities, public affairs, immigration, civic life, culture, business and other matters of public interest.
Our newsroom serves Russian-speaking, immigrant and multilingual audiences, including readers who may have limited access to reliable local and state information in their preferred language. Russian California publishes journalism in Russian and English and seeks to make accurate information about California and the United States accessible to diverse communities.
Independent, factual and community-focused journalism
We believe community and in-language journalism plays an important role in helping residents understand public institutions, participate in civic life and make informed decisions.
Editorial Independence
Russian California makes editorial decisions independently and on the basis of journalistic relevance, accuracy and public interest.
Advertisers, sponsors, donors, political organizations, government entities and other outside parties do not receive control over our independent editorial coverage.
Advertising, sponsored material and other paid commercial content are distinguished from independent editorial journalism.
Accuracy and Verification
We strive to publish information that is accurate, properly sourced and presented in appropriate context. Reporters and editors are expected to verify material facts through interviews, public records, documents, direct observation, reliable data and other appropriate journalistic methods.
When reporting includes significant allegations or criticism involving an individual, business, government agency or organization, we seek an appropriate opportunity for the subject of the reporting to respond whenever reasonably possible.
We distinguish factual news reporting from opinion, commentary, advertising and sponsored content.
Sources and Attribution
Russian California identifies and attributes sources whenever possible.
Confidential or anonymous sources may be used when there is a legitimate journalistic reason to protect a source’s identity and when the information is important to the public interest. Information provided by confidential sources is evaluated for reliability and, whenever possible, independently verified.
We do not knowingly present rumors, speculation or unverified claims as established facts.
Conflicts of Interest
Journalists and editors should avoid financial, political, personal or other conflicts that could improperly influence editorial coverage.
Significant conflicts of interest relevant to a particular article or investigation should be disclosed when appropriate.
Corrections Policy
Russian California is committed to correcting significant factual errors promptly and transparently.
When we determine that a published article contains a material factual error, we will correct the information. When appropriate, the article will include a correction, clarification or editor’s note explaining the significant change.
Minor typographical, grammatical, formatting or stylistic errors that do not alter the meaning of an article may be corrected without a separate editor’s note.
Help us maintain accuracy
Readers who believe Russian California has published inaccurate information are encouraged to contact the editorial office. Please include the article title or URL, identify the information you believe is incorrect and, when possible, provide supporting documentation or other relevant information.
Correction requests are reviewed by the editorial team.
Community Responsibility
Russian California recognizes the particular responsibility of community and in-language journalism. Our audience includes immigrants and Russian-speaking residents who rely on trusted information about California institutions, public services, immigration, local government, community issues and events affecting their daily lives.
We seek to report respectfully on California’s diverse communities and provide journalism that supports informed civic participation while reflecting a range of experiences and perspectives.
